HOLY SHIT!!!!

It's Summer, and you know what that means (OK, on top of all the dirty sexing and the drinking and falling over)...It's Festival Time!

Why am I so excited?

Who knows?

I know for a fact I won't be going to any festivals, because that involves being around idiots, and I don't play that way.

But if there's one thing i do know about festivals, it's that you need one hell of a damn good mix tape (read: CD) to get you there, and still be on speaking terms with the other clowns in your Tarago (yeah, I roll like dat) by the time you finally pull in.

Now, a mix CD is a very special thing, and like most special things, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it.

People so often miss the point of the mix CD, which is the "mix" part of things.

It's great that you like gangsta rap yo, but listening to it on an 8 hour drive sucks more ass than a rectally-situated leech.

You need the mix, because you're not going to be singing along to The Darkness the whole way...you need some bleepy blippy songs too, so you can get lost in your thoughts for a while.

In order for it to be really succesful, you need a big ole blend of:

• Cock rock (for laughs and singing along),
• Old skool classiques (like 'Lovecats' by The Cure),
• Drum'n'Bass (to pump you up, destroy your speakers, and prove to the world you have great taste in musical genres),
• Dub/Reggae (to bring you back down again, before the...),
• ...INTENSELY HEAVY METAL (kicks in).
• Electronica (= a great way to enjoy 5 meat pies and chips and chocolate and three drinks).
• Spoken word to mix it up some (believe me, this is necessary),
• Some hip hop (but only missy elliot and doctor octagon style stuff...oh, and P.E. OK, and Ice Cube).
• Every roadtrip needs some Avril, but when you pull up at the lights and people give you a funny look, just say "my radio is BROKEN". This goes double for 'The UGLY Song' by Daphne and Celeste.
• You will need some songs like 'Hella Good' by No Doubt, and 'The Wreckoning' by Boomkat, even if you would never dream of listening to them at home. Oh, and Blink 182. Trust me, they're necessary.
• You will need a pantload of Deftones, because no-one rocks a road trip like they do.
• Old stuff (like the Rolling Stones and Jet),
• You definitely need some Australian music (The Tremors, Magic Dirt, The Living End) so you can look out the window at the gum trees and remember back to when Triple J wasn't utterly shit.
• You have to play some Knifeyard, Disgraceland, and The Alps, because this is MY freakin' list, and I'm telling you to. Also because I need you to buy my CD's so I can go make the new one.
