Australia is a racist country, Vs. Indians deserve to be bashed.

I haven't written one of these in a while.

"One of these", being an opinion blog, based solely on my experience and thoughts on a current event.

Typically, these blogs incur the wrath of a lot of people, my readership goes down, things like that. That's ok...I generally don't live by what others think, so it's pretty much like losing hairs off my head.

So here's the synopsis:

Indians are being assaulted in Australia.

Indians are increasingly upset about this.

The view from India regarding Australia is that Australia is "a racist country". They have issued official Government travel advisories, warning Indian nationals of the dangers of being Indian in Australia.

OK, hold up a second. Australia may, or may not be, a racist country. It wouldn't surprise me if there were more racists/xenophobes here than any other country on earth. It wouldn't surprise me if there weren't, also.

What surprises me here, is that, when you want sympathy for your cause (that cause being awareness by a country of your position on a current event), don't insult the country. It makes people not like you, and you lose in the eyes of the media, which is how the majority of people in this country see and comprehend what goes on around them.

Also, make sure you're perfect, before shouting about the imperfections of the country you're visiting.

India has twice the murder rate per capita than Australia does. So fuck up.

In India, women are killed in the name of honour all the time. So fuck up.

In India, white people are victims of violent crime too. So...fuck up.

Here's what I see:

Indian people I experience in Melbourne in the main have been arrogant, rude, and in some cases, aggressive. I have also met some wonderful Indian people here (and overseas), and they were all loveable in the extreme, and well worth respecting. But sadly, they are in a very tiny minority of my experience.

There is something about the way Indians in general communicate that is incredibly rude and disrespectful. Is it a holdover of the caste system,? Do they see us as inferior because we're not dressed formally,? Is the Indian 'tone' easily mistaken as rude when in fact they are merely inquisitive and opinionated? No idea.

Do they deserve to be bashed for it? Hell no.

Don't think I'm nationalistic. I'm not. nationalism is societally endorsed retardation.

Don't think I care how the rest of the world sees Australia. I don't. Australia is a bit of a joke overseas. Laid back people with stupid slang and accents wrestling crocs or sunning themselves on the Gold Coast. Whatever. the reality of Chapel Street, Prahran, or Mooloolabah beach in Queensland on a Friday night is far more embarrassing.

So say what you like.

But when I see Indians beating their own female cousins on the street because they dated someone the males didn't approve of, don't sook when your people get bashed here.

When I see Indian taxi drivers fighting each other and sometimes others in public, don't sook when your people get bashed here.

If you show people you're into scrapping, don't sook when people get confused and think you're all like that.

Have a look at yourselves, and how you (generally don't) integrate here, and stop wondering why traditional Anglo Australians (read: bogans) would want to have a go at you.

Is it racial? No. Anyone who is rude/arrogant and beats their sisters in public would get the same treatment.

Is that right? No! But it is Australian. Does that make us racists? Again, no. There are so many people here who marched with you, who suppport you, and who would want to help you. So when you stereotype all of us, you include them.

And for my part, the next time an Indian taxi driver attempts to kidnap and rape one of my female friends, I won't label you all rapists.

The Government of Australia is dreaming if it thinks that these attacks aren't racially motivated. the police know why this is happening, they're just not telling Joe Public. The reason is, is because there is a small group of people who live here, that are ignorant of India's incredibly rich history, cultural diversity, insane work ethic, and everything else that makes India an incredible place full of amazing people, these people, want to travel in the city and not be the only white face on the tram. They are sick of International students and taxi drivers and anyone else they don't understand. And they know that if they bash enough of them, they'll simply stop coming. And this has started to happen.

The number of international students coming to Australia from India has halved for the next year. The plan is working. The racists are winning. And you're all falling for it.

The only reason they haven't done the same thing with Asians is because Asians have killed each other with samurai swords outside nightclubs, and may or may not know martial arts. Bogans ain't fucking with that.

So if you're in India, and you're thinking of cancelling your plans to move here, that's fine with me.

And if you're in India, and you want to come here, that's fine too.

Just know, that people in Australia get bashed occasionally. And if you come here, it might be you, just like it might be me (Dutch), or my friend Moses (Syrian). That's the Australia you don't see in the Qantas ads.

An Indian taxi driver who sexually assaulted a teenage schoolgirl trying to get to her grandmother's house will spend three months in jail.

Baljit Singh, 46, from Eight Mile Plains, was sentenced in Brisbane's District Court on Friday for the June 2008 assault of the 13-year-old.

The Indian-born father-of-four had earlier pleaded guilty to three counts of indecently dealing of a child under 16.... See More

Crown prosecutor Dzenita Balic told the court the girl, dressed in her school uniform, had asked Singh to drive her to a party but changed her mind and asked him to take her to her grandmother's.

Singh instead stopped by a Greenslopes park, on Brisbane's southside, where he fondled her and masturbated in front of her.

Ms Balic said Singh had seized the opportunity to use the girl for his own sexual satisfaction, only stopping once he had gratified himself.

Defence counsel Michael Byrne, QC, said his client's behaviour was an "aberration" that was completely at odds with his character.

He said Singh was sorry for the spontaneous offence that had cost him his 10-year career as a taxi driver.

He had since set up an Indian restaurant in Warwick, west of Brisbane, in order to support his wife and children, Mr Byrne said.

Singh was sentenced to 15 months' jail, to be suspended after three months.

After the recent controversies surrounding the treatment of Indian students in Australia, the relationship between the two countries may be about to face another test.

An Indian student has allegedly fled the country before being sentenced for culpable driving which killed one young Queenslander and seriously injured another.

Gold Coast student Dean Hofstee, 19, was killed in Melbourne last October. A speeding car slammed into him and his friend Clancy Coker outside a city hotel.

Indian student Puneet Puneet, 19, later pleaded guilty to a charge of culpable driving.

Police estimated the learner driver had been travelling at 150 kilometres per hour in a 60kph zone. His blood alcohol reading was 0.165.

Outside the County Court in Melbourne yesterday, Mr Hofstee's father, Peter Hofstee, said he was bitterly disappointed that Puneet appeared to have fled the country before his pre-sentencing hearing.

"It would be important for Dean to see that justice is done. I certainly hope that the authorities manage to extradite him [Puneet] back to Australia to face the charges and finalise the matter," he said.

Judge Lisa Hannan issued an arrest warrant for Puneet.

Victoria Police believe he fled to New Delhi using the passport of another Indian student on June 12, just a few hours after reporting for bail.

Extradition a tricky process

Australia and India agreed to an extradition treaty in June last year but the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says it is not yet in force.

A professor of international law at the Australian National University, Don Rothwell, says the arrest warrant issued in Melbourne cannot be executed in India until the treaty comes into force.

"For the time being, providing that the Indian fugitive remains in India, he would effectively be exempt from the reach of the arrest warrant, providing he stays in India," Professor Rothwell said.

"Once the extradition treaty enters into force, Indian authorities would be bound to uphold and process the extradition request, and to seek to lodge an arrest warrant within India to seek out and detain this individual."

Professor Rothwell says he does not think this case will delay the treaty.

"In 2008 in addition to the extradition treaty, Australia also concluded a mutual assistance treaty dealing with matters of criminal interest between the two countries, and since then of course we've had the terrorist events in Bombay and no doubt the Australian Federal Police have got interests in matters that are occurring in India," he said.

"I think the Australian Government, perhaps even the Indian Government, has made clear that they're going to differentiate the recent troubles about Indian student concerns in Australia from other important aspects of bilateral relationships.

"So it would be hoped I think, and perhaps even expected, certainly in Canberra, that this would not be an issue which would delay the eventual entry into force of this extradition treaty."

Late yesterday, Victoria Police charged a 20-year-old Indian student living in Melbourne.

They allege Sukhcharanjit Singh gave his passport to Puneet. Singh appeared in court and has been remanded in custody.

Respect, we just need to respect each others' beliefs and culture, even if we don't agree with it....easier said than done for some.

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/elderly-woman-bashed-by-taxi-driver/story-e6frfku0-1225905455275

A TAXI driver bashed and robbed an 81-year-old woman who earlier requested to be driven to a Melbourne medical centre, police say.

Police investigators have been told the victim caught a taxi from a bus stop at the corner of Frank and Douglas streets, outside Coles in Noble Park between 11am and midday (AEST) yesterday.

They believe the woman asked to be taken to a medical centre and gave the taxi driver the approximate fare up front.

The driver began to drive in the opposite direction and when the victim requested he turn around, he drove to Taranto Drive and held down her seat belt so she could not move.

He then allegedly punched her in the face a number of times and removed cash from her purse, police say.

"The driver threw the purse back at her, pushed her out of the taxi and drove away," police said in a statement.

"The victim managed to seek assistance from a nearby resident in Taranto Drive where an ambulance was called."

The Noble Park woman was taken to Dandenong Hospital where she was treated for swollen, black eyes and bruising to her shoulder and hand.

Police say her attacker is of Indian sub-continental appearance, with short hair, solid build and wearing glasses with red arms.
